Copy the layer

Overlay & High Pass4

Now, apply for the high pass. To do this, you need to go to Filter > Other > High Pass. Now, you can see a popup box. From the box, select the radius to 9 pixels and tap on Ok. This makes the image sharp, but if you invert the photo, then it will be soft. To invert the photo, you should go to Image > Adjustment > Invert. You can also use the shortcut method- Ctrl + I to invert the photo colors on the high pass layer.

Smooth the skin

Now, what you need to do is to add a layer mask. To add a layer mask, you should click on the add layer button icon which you can find at the bottom of the right-side display. Layer mask helps to hide the soft effect.
Now, pick the brush tool from the toolbar menu. Choose a soft-edged brush tip and start brushing over the model skin to reveal the effect of the high pass layer. Keep brushing until you get the desired result.

When you are satisfied with the result you get, stop brushing. Then, save your image by holding down Ctrl + S.
